Barrie Kaufman

Stories of the natural world, its beauty, and current imbalance, inform my work. Living in West Virginia, I feel the destruction of the mountains, forests, and rivers. I am passionate about telling this story in my artwork.

I continually explore a variety of experimental processes and challenge myself to develop new media in two and three dimensions. In 2013 I began working with cast and blown glass, luminous and reflective, translating my ideas from prints and paintings into three dimensions.

Some people have described my work as chaotic with forms, lines, and symbols jumbled together, mirroring the abuse of the environment. I am constantly exploring themes of light and dark to tell the story of our current humanity which uplifts and challenges the viewer. Working in series and often in a large format I want my work to be a visceral reminder of things lost or forgotten.
